Get Water Wise – Save Lives

As temperatures rise, we look forward to our favourite summer activity, swimming. Whether it's in the pool, at the beach or cottage, or getting wet at the local wading pool, we think about the fun, but not always the safety. From June to September, at least one person will drown every two weeks within Canada. The Ottawa Drowning Prevention Coalition is committed to raising public awareness of water safety with drowning prevention tips for parents and caregivers. Remember, adult supervision is essential no matter how well your child swims. Now is a good time to learn to swim. We have swimming lessons for all ages.

Three amazing reasons to check out Lansdowne Park this weekend!

  1. The Civic Garden -  Lansdowne is home to a demonstration garden with themed beds that highlight a variety of themes such as Square Foot Gardening; Algonquin ethnobotanical plantings; a Peter Rabbit bed and a Fairy garden; and more. The food grown here is donated to a local food bank.
  2. Unique play structure – Our flexible and unique play structure is a great place for kids of all ages to burn off some extra energy. On hot days cool off in the water park!
  3. There’s always something going on Lansdowne! From events like full moon yoga (June 28), to the Ottawa farmer’s market (every Sunday), to hands on science workshops (June 27), there’s something for everyone even when it’s not a game day!

Check out all the options at Ottawa.ca

Unique options at your recreation facilities!

There are 94 City of Ottawa recreation facilities, which means there’s probably one pretty close to your house. So why would you go all the way to Fisher Park Community Centre when you live in the east end? Because it’s the only community centre in Ottawa that offers fencing. That’s right, fencing, the sword-fighting sport practiced by Olympians and Musketeers everywhere.

On the other hand, maybe the east end is as good as it seems. Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex - Orléans is the only east end pool to offer the Junior Lifeguard Course and Ray Friel Recreation Complex has the only summer leadership camps offered in French. The Leadership - Avancé program is highly recommended for people interested in pursuing a career with the city. While you’re picking up your future municipal leader, may as well book them a NERF themed birthday party, because Ray Friel also offers structured party packages!

So trust us, when we say just because you’ve been to one recreation facility it doesn’t mean you’ve been to all of them.

Get Fired up this Summer!

Why should kids have all the summer fun? We have pottery space to suit your busy schedule! Try out Flex it handbuilding and wheel studios this summer! Flexible pottery allows you to pay for individual studio slots and build a schedule that suits you. Feed your artistic soul and book your time today.
