Special Advisory: Winter overnight parking ban in effect

01/29/2019 11:00

Due to weather conditions, a winter overnight parking ban is in effect tonight between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. across Ottawa. This overnight parking ban will remain in effect until the City announces it has been lifted.
During an overnight parking ban, residents are reminded that there is no parking on city streets so that crews can plow easily and effectively. Vehicles parked on the street during an overnight parking ban may be ticketed and towed. On-street parking permit holders are exempt from this restriction. Non permit holders can avoid fines by not parking on the street overnight.
Free parking
During winter overnight parking bans, residents will have free access to covered City-owned parking garages. Visit ottawa.ca for more information about which City garages are free during winter overnight parking bans.

Artefact spotlight

Memorial plaques like the one pictured here were sent to the families of British Empire soldiers, including Canadians, who lost their lives in WWI. This plaque commemorates the life of John Robert Walker who was killed in October 1916 during the last month of the Somme Offensive. The Walker family of City View sent three sons to fight in the First World War, John Robert, Joshua, and Daniel. Neither John Robert nor Joshua would return home. Their names are inscribed on the Vimy Memorial along with over 11,000 Canadian soldiers who were listed as ‘missing, presumed dead’ in France.
Nepean Museum’s upcoming Rural Roots and City Streets exhibition will feature stories and artefacts that shine a light on local history from before the arrival of European settlers to the end of 20th century. Visit the exhibition when it opens to learn more about how the community experienced the First and Second World Wars.

Museum makeover

Next time you visit Nepean Museum it will have a brand new look. The exhibitions and collections spaces are currently undergoing a renovation that will give visitors a closer look at Nepean’s history. A new permanent exhibition, Rural Roots and City Streets, will open this winter and the re-imagined space will include a window offering a behind-the-scenes look into our collections storage area. Follow Nepean Museum on Facebook for updates as work progresses.

Celebrate Heritage Day

Join us at City Hall on February 19 from 11:30 am to 2 pm for Heritage Day. The Heritage Showcase is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the many organizations working to promote and conserve Ottawa’s shared history including the five City of Ottawa museums and historic sites.
