Pinecrest Recreation Complex renovation schedule
We received the following notice from the Pinecrest Recreation Complex about their renovation plans.
To the clients of Pinecrest Recreation Complex
We wanted to inform all of you that Pinecrest Recreation Complex – Pool and Community Centre has been scheduled for an extended closure this year. The closure will begin Monday August 24 – Sunday December 20th, 2015. Our facility is in need of an electric systems upgrade as our current wiring is from 1967 when the building was built. During this planned shutdown the City will also be improving accessibility features as well in order to bring our building in line with current accessibility legislation. During this time there will be no access to the community centre and the pool as it will be considered a construction zone. Barbara Anne Scott Arena will remain open.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this closure however we look forward to the changes that will result from these upgrades. We plan to reopen on Monday December 21st with our Winter session beginning on Monday January 4th, 2016. Registration for this session will follow the regular City of Ottawa registration dates and will begin August 10th for Aquatic programs and August 12th for all other recreation programs. Our summer programs are running as usual and registration is ongoing.
Thank you for including Pinecrest Recreation Complex as part of your busy lives! Re-opening details will follow at a later date.

Second Annual QTSR Winter Skating Party!
While some of us were grumbling about February's frigid weather, our volunteer rink team has been working hard to keep the Kilreen Park Rink in perfect shape for our second annual QTSR Winter Skating Party!
We had relay races, tug of war, parachute games and lots of prizes... and of course treats and hot chocolate to stay warm.

City councillor Rick Chiarelli, Nancy Cairns from Rick's office, and Cst. Sue Wright from the Greenbank Community Police Centre all took part in the fun.
Thanks to all our sponsors and prize donors: Ikea, City of Ottawa Parks & Recreation, Loblaws College Square, and Mircheezzz Catering and Meal Planning Services. And a BIG thank you to all our QTSR volunteers that make these events happen!!!

Kilreen Rink Open for the Season!
We're delighted to announce that our community skating rink in Kilreen Park is finally open for the winter season. Due to the mild December weather, the rink took longer to get started this year. We're grateful to the many community volunteers who patiently helped to prepare the base and flood the surface over the past weeks, keeping the faith through those warmer days. Now that the January deep freeze has finally arrived, we hope to see all our neighbours out on the rink!
Ice conditions will be posted on-line by our rink coordinator. Just go to http://www.ottawarinks.ca/ and look under "Kilreen" to check conditions.
An additional thanks to Appleseed Snowblowing Service for their help with the base ice, along with our community volunteers! Now get out there and skate!
