City of Ottawa Recreation - Swimming

Register for swimming lessons on Monday night

We know you’ve missed swimming. And swimming has missed you too. Our Learn to Swim program is back. It looks a little different with new COVID-19 prevention measures, but you’ll still recognize its splashy fun essence.

Plan ahead and take a look at our published eGuide. Registration starts on Monday, July 13 at 9 pm and weekly sessions begin Monday, July 20.
Here are a few tips for registering:
  1. Click the barcode – it will take you to Join.ottawa.ca with details on the number of available spaces, fees and dates.
  1. Log in to your existing CLASS account or create an account in advance to save time if you’re a new user. Add the class to your cart and then proceed through the check out. You'll receive a receipt by email.
  2. Add the barcode to your cart and then proceed through the check out. You'll receive a receipt by email.

What's different
?

Classes will be smaller to allow for physical distancing and they’ll be 30 minutes long for all levels. Also, instructors will keep their distance so a parent or guardian will need to accompany their child in the pool for the following levels:
  • Private lessons – pre-school to Swim Kids 4
  • Pre-school to Swim Kids 1 to 4 – low-ratio classes
  • Inclusive Swim Kids 1 and 2

Some pools have reopened and more will open next week. Check the swim schedule online and call the facility to reserve a same-day, hour-long swim. You'll soon be able to reserve through a new online booking tool, so stay tuned!

A few other tips
  • Shower at home
  • Wear your bathing suit to the pool
  • Wear a mask when walking in the facility, but masks are exempt in the pool
  • Wash or sanitize your hands frequently
  • Wait outside the facility unless you’re swimming or accompanying your child in the pool for lessons
  • Stay home if you’re exhibiting any symptoms
