City of Ottawa Recreation - Halloween Edition

 

Trick or Swim or Skate
 
It’s back! Give the kids a spooktacular surprise this Halloween. Just $10 for 10 tickets to regularly scheduled public swim or skate sessions at City pools and select arenas. Hand these out as an alternative to candy for kids between three and 15-years-old. Tickets can be redeemed between Tuesday, November 1 and Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Check out Ottawa.ca/recreation for participating facilities.
 
New swimming lesson program
 
We’ve officially unveiled our new swimming lesson program – Swim City! Check out the new lesson names and designs. The new program will start in January 2023 and will replace the outgoing Red Cross program. It has a refreshed curriculum and branding that is unique to Ottawa with the colours, creatures and names chosen through a contest which ran in June and received 1000 submissions! The pre-school levels reflect the culture and heritage of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation. Each Participant will receive a map to track their progression and can collect stickers as they pass each level.
 
Ottawa Book Awards
 
It’s the time of year where we celebrate Ottawa’s authors. The finalists have been announced and you can find them all on ottawa.ca. The ceremony takes place on Wednesday October 29, where the winners will be announced. Keep an eye on our social channels for winners.
 
Nepean Sportsplex Christmas Craft Show
 
Before you know it, it will be time for some Christmas shopping. Save the date for the Nepean Christmas Craft Show, happening Thursday, November 3 to Sunday, November 6 will have over 100+ vendors offering local, handmade, items over the four-day show. It’s a great chance to get a unique gift or stocking stuffer for friends or family. Join us on Thursday, November 3, 2-for-1 admission day. Find out more.
 
Live shows at City theatres
 
Shenkman Arts Centre and Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe recently announced shows for the first half of 2023 and there is something for everyone. Jermery Fisher and Paddington Bear entertain the youngest audiences, while adults will be wowed by music from the Irish Rovers, Mardi Gras Mambo and Séan McCann - to name a few.
