Free Family-Friendly New Year’s Eve Events


Ottawa City Hall Party

Sesquicentennial Celebrations at Ottawa City Hall. This early-evening NYE party will offer family-friendly activities and the lighting of a spectacular gas-powered cauldron in Marion Dewar Plaza. From the cauldron, students will form a human chain through Ottawa’s downtown core to symbolize youthful optimism. The cauldron, which is approximately 16 feet high and 13 feet wide, will be located near the memorial fountain next to Laurier Avenue. Parliament Hill Party

Celebrate – Canada 150 Kick Off will take place on Parliament Hill at 7:00 p.m. There will be special activities on both sides of the Ottawa River, including live music performances and a pyromusical fireworks show at 8:17 p.m., also known as 20:17! This celebration will kick off festivities all across the country! After the fireworks at 8:17 p.m., Canadian artists Radio Radio, Brett Kissel and Carly Rae Jepsen will take the stage. There will then be a second fireworks display at midnight. This event is free. Hogmanay (Scottish Society of Ottawa) Party

The Scottish Society of Ottawa is throwing its fifth annual Hogmanay at Lansdowne's Aberdeen Pavilion. Hogmanay is what the Scots call New Year's Eve, and Ottawa's version will include music (with headliners, The Barra MacNeils), dancing, skating, food and drink, and activities for children. There will be two countdowns: one at the family-friendly hour of 7 p.m. to countdown with the folks Scotland, and another at midnight to ring in the Canadian New Year. Admission is free. Rick Chiarelli’s Alcohol-Free New Year’s Eve Party

For the past quarter-century, College ward Coun. Rick Chiarelli has been hosting a family-friendly, alcohol-free New Year's Eve party. This year is no different, and the 26th edition of the Centrepointe get-together starts at 6 p.m. at Ben Franklin Place. 123rd Ottawa Scouts Holiday Bottle Drive

When: January 7th, 2017 (Starting at 9am)

Why: The money will be used to replace aging/old scout equipment for the local scout group

How:

Step 1: Put bottles outside of door with a scout flyer attached (flyer delivered to your home by scout group - if you did not receive a flyer, simply add a piece of paper with the label "123rd Ottawa Scouts")

Step 2: Put the bottles out so they are visible from the road before 9am

Step 3: The scouts will take your bottles

Between Woodroffe and Greenbank, Baseline and the Queensway

Community Ice Rink - Sunday 12:00-2:00 - Volunteers Needed

We are going to start building the ice for our community skating rink in Kilreen Park on Sunday, December 18th from 12:00-2:00pm.

What is Involved?

We need volunteers to help us pack down the snow for the rink.  This can be done with shovels, snow shoes and even by pulling sleds over the snow. 

When: Sunday, December 18th. 12:00-2:00pm

All are welcome and we would appreciate your help!

Our Lady of Victory (OLV) School 6th Annual Caroling Evening

Hello Neighbours,

Our Lady of Victory School Parent Council is hosting its 6th annual Caroling Evening on Friday December 16th.  We would like to let you know that students will be coming door to door on your street between 6 pm and 7 pm that evening.  We welcome you to answer your door and enjoy the beautiful Christmas Spirit and voices of our children.

We will be accepting donations of cash or non-perishable food items for a family in need from our school community.  We will be preparing a Christmas hamper for them to make their season a bit brighter.

Next QTSRCA Meeting - December 12th

The Queensway Terrace South Ridgeview Community Association (QTSRCA) will be holding our next monthly meeting on December 12th, 7:30-9:00 and you are welcome to join us.  A copy of the agenda for the meeting is available at this link.

About: In 2015, the theatre building was sold again and a lease was signed to keep The Gladstone a theatre for years to come. In 2016, a newly formed volunteer steering committee held a community consultation and distributed an online survey on the subject of the future of The Gladstone. Results were highly encouraging! In November 2016, The Gladstone Theatre was incorporated as a non-profit with the purpose of managing the venue and ensuring that it remains a home for Ottawa independent theatre.

About: Kanata Theatre is an all-volunteer amateur  community theatre company operating in Kanata, Ontario, Canada. It began in 1968 as a play reading group in a sleepy bedroom community. At that time the town consisted of only a handful of houses, one public school, two gas stations, a post office and an A&P grocery store.

As a charitable not-for-profit, volunteer-based organization, OLT relies on its subscribers, ticket buyers and individual donors to provide nearly 70% of its income.  The balance is raised through fundraising, rentals and other sales.  1-3% of its income comes from government grants each year.
