Three times the Try it! fun in May

Ottawa – Ottawa residents are invited to sample a variety of fitness opportunities at City recreation facilities during the spring edition of Try it!
 
You now have the entire month of May to try three free fitness sessions at City facilities. This is a great opportunity to try aqua fitness, Spinning TM and group fitness classes, or to work out in a participating City of Ottawa cardio or weight training centre free of charge.
 
Simply visit a participating facility to set up your free membership access card, which provides you  three visits during the month of May.
 
Most of our fitness centres are participating, so visit ottawa.ca to find a facility near you.

Essayez-le! en mai – Trois fois plus de plaisir

Ottawa – Les résidents d’Ottawa sont invités à profiter de différentes possibilités de mise en forme dans les installations récréatives de la Ville pendant l’édition du printemps d’Essayez-le!
 
Vous avez maintenant tout le mois de mai pour faire l’essai de trois séances de conditionnement physique gratuites dans les installations de la Ville. Il s’agit d’une excellente occasion d’essayer l’aquaforme, le Spinning MD et des cours de conditionnement physique de groupe ou de vous entraîner gratuitement dans l’un des centres d’entraînement cardio ou de musculation participants de la Ville d’Ottawa.
 
Il vous suffit de vous rendre dans une installation participante afin d’obtenir votre carte d’accès gratuite, qui vous permettra trois visites durant le mois de mai.
 
Comme la plupart de nos centres de conditionnement physique participent à cette promotion, vous n’avez qu’à visiter le ottawa.ca pour trouver une installation près de chez vous.

New location for Household Hazardous Waste Depot on May 1 / Nouvel emplacement pour le dépôt de déchets ménagers dangereux le 1er mai


 

New location for Household Hazardous Waste Depot on May 1

 
Ottawa – Residents can drop off their hazardous waste at the first Household Hazardous Waste Depot of the year on Sunday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the OC Transpo Park and Ride, located at 1201 Trim Road in Orléans. Please note this is a new location.
 
Household hazardous waste includes the following items:
 
               Aerosol containers
               Propane cylinders
               Disinfectants
               Fluorescent bulbs/tubes
               Fire extinguishers
               Fertilizers and pesticides
               Mercury switches/thermometers
               Needles and syringes
               Pharmaceuticals
               Paints and coatings
               Oven and window cleaners
               Pool chemicals
               Batteries (automotive/household)
 
Residential electronic waste such as computers, TVs and cameras are also accepted at this site. For a complete listing of acceptable household hazardous waste, please visit ottawa.ca. Residents are reminded that this depot is for household waste only (maximum 100 litres). No commercial waste will be accepted.
 
To keep our waste collection operators and our environment safe please do your part by safely disposing of hazardous household waste such as used needles, propane cylinders and pool chemicals.
 
If you are unable to attend the depot, some hazardous materials can be returned to local retailers involved in the Take it Back program any day of the week during regular operating hours.
 
The City also hosts several Hazardous Waste Depots at locations across the city throughout the year. For information about upcoming dates, visit ottawa.ca.

Nouvel emplacement pour le dépôt de déchets ménagers dangereux le 1er mai

Ottawa – Les résidents peuvent apporter leurs déchets dangereux au premier dépôt de déchets ménagers dangereux de l’année le dimanche 1er mai de 8 h à 16 h, au parc-o-bus d’OC Transpo, au 1201, chemin Trim, à Orléans. Veuillez prendre note qu’il s’agit d’un nouvel emplacement. 
 
Voici quelques-uns des produits dont vous pouvez vous débarrasser à ces dépôts :
                  
       aérosols;
       bouteilles de propane;
       désinfectants;
       ampoules et tubes fluorescents;
       extincteurs;
       fertilisants et pesticides;
       interrupteurs et thermomètres à mercure;
       aiguilles et seringues;
       médicaments;
       peinture et vernis;
       produits nettoyants pour le four et les fenêtres;
       produits chimiques pour la piscine;
       batteries de voiture et piles domestiques.
 
Les déchets électroniques résidentiels comme les ordinateurs, les téléviseurs et les appareils photo sont également acceptés à ce site. Pour obtenir la liste complète des déchets ménagers dangereux acceptés, consultez le site ottawa.ca. On rappelle aux résidents que ce dépôt est réservé aux déchets ménagers (maximum de 100 litres). Les déchets commerciaux ne seront pas acceptés. 
 
Pour assurer la sécurité de nos préposés à la collecte des déchets et de notre environnement, faites votre part en éliminant en toute sécurité les déchets ménagers dangereux comme les aiguilles utilisées, les bouteilles de propane et les produits chimiques pour la piscine.  
 
Si vous êtes dans l’impossibilité de vous rendre au dépôt, vous pouvez apporter certains produits dangereux chez les détaillants locaux participant au programme Rapportez-les n’importe quel jour de la semaine pendant les heures normales d’ouverture.
 
La Ville organise également plusieurs dépôts de déchets ménagers dangereux à des emplacements partout dans la ville tout au long de l’année. Pour obtenir de l’information sur les dates à venir, consultez ottawa.ca.

New waste collection calendar is coming

 
Ottawa – Get ready to make space on your refrigerator or in your garage; the City’s new 12-month waste collection calendar will be delivered by mail to residences across the city starting in May.
 
The calendar starts in June 2016 and runs until May 2017. It features information about regular and holiday collections schedules, Giveaway Weekends, Household Hazardous Waste Depot dates and locations and much more.
 
Residents can visit ottawa.ca to view the calendar online, and sign up to receive weekly collection reminders by email, phone or Twitter. They can also visit the City's waste explorer tool to learn which items go in the blue, black and green bins.

Bientôt un nouveau calendrier de la collecte des déchets

Ottawa – Faites de la place sur votre réfrigérateur ou dans votre garage, car le nouveau calendrier de la collecte des déchets de la Ville d’Ottawa sera distribué par la poste aux résidences de la ville à compter du mois de mai.
 
Le nouveau calendrier portera sur une période de 12 mois, soit de juin 2016 à mai 2017. Il indiquera les jours de collecte habituels ou pour les semaines comptant des congés fériés, les fins de semaine don-débarras ainsi que la date et le lieu des dépôts de déchets ménagers dangereux, entre autres.
 
Les résidents pourront se rendre sur le site ottawa.ca pour consulter le calendrier en ligne et s’inscrire afin de recevoir des rappels hebdomadaires par courriel, par téléphone ou par Twitter. Ils pourront aussi visiter le site ottawa.ca/navigateurdedechets pour savoir quelles matières déposer dans la boîte bleue, la boîte noire ou le bac vert.

Young at Art 2016 artworks on display at galleries citywide

Ottawa – Some of Ottawa’s best young artists will get the opportunity to display their artwork in three City of Ottawa community galleries starting April 21. Young at Art 2016 exhibits juried work by young artists between the ages of 12 and 19. To celebrate their talents, each gallery will host a vernissage.

Artistes en herbe 2016 – Expositions d’œuvres d’art présentées dans les galeries de la ville


Ottawa – Dès le 21 avril 2016, quelques-uns des jeunes artistes les plus talentueux d’Ottawa exposeront leurs œuvres dans trois galeries communautaires de la Ville. Présentées dans le cadre d’Artistes en herbe 2016, ces expositions mettront à l’honneur des œuvres choisies par un jury et réalisées par des artistes de 12 à 19 ans. Afin de célébrer le talent de ces jeunes, un vernissage aura lieu dans chaque galerie.

Ottawa – It’s Spring in the City and there’s a lot to do in and around Ottawa.
 
There is a bouquet of comedy, music and theatre shows at Centrepointe Theatres and Shenkman Arts Centre, Hurry, some performances can sell out quickly.
 
Spring weather means increased programming at City museums, the Ottawa Archives and Ottawa’s many galleries including Karsh-Masson Gallery. Don’t forget to visit the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery and the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at City Hall.
 
It’s not too early to register for a summer camp, and it’s not too late to sign up for a spring class, like the iPad® workshop at the Heron Community Centre on April 27.
 
Programs are also offered at Ottawa Public Library branches citywide.
 
Visit Spring in the City regularly for updates on what’s happening this week and in the season to come.

Que se passe-t-il à Ottawa cette semaine?

Ottawa – C’est le printemps dans la ville et une foule d’activités s’offrent à vous à Ottawa et dans les environs.
 
Il y a tout un éventail de spectacles d’humour, de musique et de théâtre aux Théâtres Centrepointe et au Centre des Arts Shenkman. Hâtez-vous, car les billets pour certains spectacles pourraient s’envoler rapidement.
 
L’arrivée du printemps marque une intensification de la programmation des musées de la Ville, des Archives de la Ville d’Ottawa ainsi que des nombreuses galeries municipales, dont la Galerie Karsh-Masson. N’oubliez pas de visiter la Galerie Barbara-Ann-Scott et le Temple de la renommée des sports d’Ottawa à l’hôtel de ville.
 
Il n’est pas trop tôt pour s’inscrire à un camp d’été, et il n’est pas trop tard pour s’inscrire à un cours de printemps, comme l’atelier sur le iPad au Centre communautaire Heron le 27 avril.
 
Des programmes sont également offerts dans les succursales de la Bibliothèque publique d’Ottawa à l’échelle de la ville.

Looking for a Reason to Participate in Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend? OCISO’s Run for a New Start Fundraiser


The Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) is pleased to announce the launching of our new fundraising initiative: Run for a New Start.   

They are organizing a dedicated team of volunteer fundraisers to walk or run in the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, May 28 and 29, in support of OCISO’s work with refugees and immigrants and would love you to join them! 

There are races for every size, shape and ability: 2km, 5km, 10km, half marathon (21km) and marathon (42km). 

The first 100 runners or walkers who commit to raising $100 will receive our cool new “Run for a New Start” Tshirt as a thank you.   

Register to fundraise with OCISO and ensure that arriving refugees and immigrants feel welcomed and supported in our city!

E-Waste Recycling Program

Do you have any old electronic equipment sitting around your house gathering dust? If so, you’ll be able to responsibly dispose them through the e-Waste Recycling Program happening on April 30th from 10am to 3pm at Bethany Baptist Church. 

This Ontario Electronic Stewardship approved event will allow you to dispose of your old, unusable electronics in a way that:
  • Keeps end-of-life electronics out of landfills
  • Prevents them from being illegally exported or handled by irresponsible recyclers
  • Helps to recover and recycle valuable resources that can be put back into the manufacturing supply chain
In addition, the proceeds from this event will be going to Bethany Baptist Church’s Missionary Partners in Kenya.

Enchantment Under the Sea Fundraising Event for Queensway Carleton Hospital


An “Enchantment Under the Sea” dinner and auction fundraising event will be held on May 11th, 2016 from 6:00-10:00 pm at the 1951 West Kitchen and Bar at 1951 Robertson Road in support of the Acute Care of the Elder Unit at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.  Councillors Marianne Wilkinson and Rick Charelli as well as Majic 100’s Katherine Dines will be there.  The Back to the Future themed event will feature a Dolorean and live music.
