Tree Removal in Kilreen Park

A large number of trees in Kilreen Park  have been identified for removal due to Emerald Ash Borer (click here).

The City has developed a strategy for responding to the infestation of Emerald Ash Borer (click here). Winter is the typical season for tree removal; however, it is also the birthing season of squirrels. Removal of trees with squirrel nests causes squirrels to look for homes for their young elsewhere.
The policy in the City’s Wildlife Strategy Report, approved by council in July 2013, states that trees with wildlife in them will not be removed.

  1. It's Emerald Ash Borer, not Emerald Ash Bore.

And the reason the trees are being cut down in the winter is the Emerald Ash Borer is hibernating because it is winter. If they move the wood in the summer, the insects will just move to other trees.

Yes, it's sad that we're losing mature trees, but this is the right time of year for it to happen.

  2. Thanks for the information. I've corrected the name of the insect. Hopefully we'll get new trees in the spring and the infestation of EAB can be controlled.
