Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES) discussion on City of Ottawa Waste issues

Hello CAFES folks, WWO supporters, and interested friends,

In partnership with Waste Watch Ottawa (WWO), I would like to invite you to our next Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES) meeting on the subject of *waste*.

10:30am -12:30pm - Saturday February 10 2018
Glebe Community Centre, 175 Third Avenue

Please RSVP at this link so we know how many chairs and how much coffee/tea and snacks to get
We are currently shaping the agenda. Our thinking is along these lines.

Objectives:
1 -- share knowledge and learn more from each other about waste management and waste diversion issues in Ottawa including:
     - status & future plans of City of Ottawa
     - what are implications of Waste Free Ontario Act? When will there be new regs?
     - what is impact on Ottawa of recent Chinese policy decision to stop importing global recyclables?

2 -- Discuss and crystalize
-- some questions to raise at the Jan 20 City of O Environment Committee mtg that has a waste update on the agenda
-- what are the pointy waste issues for the fall municipal election?

3 -- Discuss and crystalize
--- what are some messages that we can take back to MPP Yasir Naqvi who has welcomed a meeting with us to talk about waste issues (and identify who wants to come do that)
-- what are the pointy waste issues for the June provincial election?

The idea is to have lots of sharing, listening, discussion. If you have a (short) presentation you would like to make on a local waste issue please flag this for organizers in the comments/suggestions box of the RSVP form please.
Resources : We will also circulate some waste management information in the next short while, both for the meeting and for people who are interested in this but cannot attend the meeting. If you have a document or a link that you think adds core info to this topic (locally, Ottawa), please send to akellerherzog@gmail.com
Stay in the loop with CAFES: If you are active with your community association and are interested in environmental issues, sign up here for the CAFES Google group.
Cheers (and apologies for the somewhat short notice)
