City of Ottawa Accessibility - Reserve or Cancel Para Transpo Trips Online

Para Transpo customers can now test new online forms to reserve a trip or cancel a trip. Both forms are mobile-friendly and accessible.

You can use the reservation form to book next-day and statutory holiday trips. The cancellation form lets you cancel a trip up to one hour before the start of your trip. Once your reservation or cancellation is processed, you will receive a confirmation email.

The forms provide a new alternative to reserving and cancelling trips by phone. You can continue reserving and cancelling trips by phone if you prefer.

The online trip cancellation and reservation forms will remain available until a full online booking system is ready for use. The final system will let you:

• Book next-day and holiday trips
• Cancel trips
• Book regular (recurring) trips
• Use previous trip information to book future trips more easily
• Confirm trip times and details
• Track the vehicle location to get estimated arrivals
• Get trip reminders sent to your phone or email

Special Advisory: Winter weather parking ban in effect tonight

Due to weather conditions, the winter weather parking ban is in effect tonight between 10 pm and 7 am Friday morning across Ottawa. These hours may be extended if necessary, to complete winter road operations. Please avoid parking on any streets that are not cleared after 7 am.

 

During a winter weather parking ban, residents are reminded that there is no parking on city streets so that crews can plow easily and effectively. Vehicles parked on the street during a winter weather parking ban may be ticketed and towed. On-street monthly parking permit holders are exempt from this restriction when they are parked in residential parking permit zones. Non permit holders can avoid fines by not parking on the street overnight.

During winter weather parking bans, residents will have free access to covered City-owned parking garages and select OC Transpo park and rides. Visit ottawa.ca for more information about which City facilities are free during winter weather parking bans.

Update: Police Incident Report for Feb. 18th Released

Ottawa Police Services has now issued an incident report for the events that occurred last night.

Three arrested in West End carjacking

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, February 19, 2020    12:17pm 

(Ottawa) – Frontline officers arrested three men following a carjacking in the West end of Ottawa last night.
At approximately 8:10pm, three men approached a woman in the 200 block of Baseline Road, brandished a weapon and tried to take her keys and purse. They fled the area after their attempt was unsuccessful. The victim was not injured.
Less than one hour later, at approximately 9:00pm, three men approached another man who was sitting in his vehicle; they brandished a weapon and demanded his cell phone and vehicle. They fled the area in the stolen vehicle leaving the victim behind, uninjured.
Responding officers searched the area and located the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stopped, two of the suspects were arrested and a third one fled the area.
A successful K9 track led to the arrest of the third suspect an hour later.
The three suspects have been arrested and identified; they are all under 18 years old, as such their identities will not be released.
The investigation is ongoing by the Ottawa Police Robbery Unit.

Police Presence in the Neighbourhood Last Night

You may have noticed police cars driving through the neighborhood last night (Feb. 18^th) around 10:30pm. The QTSC Community Association has reached out to Ottawa Police Services to find out what was happening. The police have reassured us that they were responding to an isolated issue that has been resolved. There is no ongoing threat and there was no media alert released.

March break on the homestead

Kids ages 6 to 9 can travel back in time this March Break to explore life as an early settler at Nepean Museum. Each morning, they’ll discover a new skill that would have been essential to life on the homestead from leather working to bread making. Registration is required.

Live History returns to Billings Estate

Something isn’t right at the museum and you’ve been called in after hours to help discover the source of the disturbances. How does the strained relationship between Sally and Sabra Billings connect to the mischief? Is the house still divided to this day? Characters from the exhibitions have come to life and are eager to share their sides of the story but which one is responsible for the present troubles? Tickets available now for Saturday, March 21 at 10 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm.

Artefact spotlight

Upcycling. DIY. Tinkering. The terminology may have changed over the years but this spirit of innovation has long been a part Ottawa’s history. For example, an up-close look at the wooden bicycle (circa 1890s) currently on display at Billings Estate National Historic Site reveals interesting details about its unique construction. Did you know that the chain and sprocket were “upcycled” from a retired binder – a piece of agricultural equipment that cuts and bundles wheat or other grain? In fact, all the pieces teenage James Henry Blair used to build the bicycle were salvaged from his family’s farm in Gloucester Township. The Canada Science and Technology Museum visited Billings Estate last year to learn more about the history of this artefact and explored how it was made in a blog post.
