On Sunday, April 9
City of Ottawa crews will begin the annual city-wide sweeping of
streets and sidewalks, including both daytime and night-time operations.
These operations are necessary to remove debris, dust and sand that
accumulated over the winter months.
In addition to the city-wide sweeping operations, the City completes concentrated sweeping operations in neighbourhoods that support continuous on-street parking.
During
concentrated street sweeping debris from boulevards, sidewalks and
medians is swept or flushed onto the roadway, where a vacuum truck then
picks up the majority of grit, debris, small particles and dust. This
operation may be repeated several times to ensure a clean surface. If
vehicles are parked on the street, the un-swept area is noted and crews
must then return to sweep that portion. Your patience and co-operation
to keep vehicles off the streets during this period is appreciated.
Concentrated street sweeping will commence Sunday, April 9 through to Friday, April 14, 2017; subject to weather conditions. This year, concentrated street sweeping t will take place during daytime operations only and will be performed in the following areas: Downtown Core, Vanier, New Edinburgh, Sandy Hill, Glebe, Centretown, West Centretown, By-Ward Market, Lowertown, Ottawa East, Ottawa South and sections of Overbrook.
