City of Ottawa - Storm Update (May 24)

 

Staff are working to respond to the severe thunderstorm that hit our City on Saturday May 21st. As you are aware, we are shifting our approach with regards to the collection of organics (green bin). 

 

In addition to Ward 8’s collection days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week, due to Monday’s stat holiday), staff will provide green bin collection services to Ward 8 tomorrow, on Wednesday May 25th 

 

We are asking that Ward 8 residents place their green bin only at the curb for collection tomorrow. We will do our best to complete collection, however, if the bin is not collected by end of day, residents are asked to bring the bin back in until their regularly scheduled collection day.

  •  Additional green bin collection - Tomorrow (May 25) - for Ward 8. This is in addition to regular collection. Please ensure all packaging is removed from food before going into the bin and place your green bin at the curb for collection. For more info visit ottawa.ca 
  • Collecte supp. des bacs verts - Demain (25 mai) - quartier 8. La collecte s'ajoute à la collecte habituelle. SVP assurer vous de retirer tous les emballage avant de placer vos déchets alimentaires dans le bac vert et placer le en bord de rue. Pour plus d’info, visitez ottawa.ca

 

  • Due to power outages, there will be an extra green bin collection TOMORROW (May 25) for College Ward to support you in disposing of food waste. This is in addition to regular scheduled pick up. More info: ottawa.ca
  • En raison de pannes d’électricité, il y aura une collecte supplémentaire de bacs verts DEMAIN (25 mai) pour le quartier college afin de vous aider à éliminer les déchets alimentaires. Cette collecte s'ajoute à la collecte régulière prévue. Pour plus d'informations : ottawa.ca

 

  • Tree branch and yard waste collection will take time. Please place small bundles of branches at the curb and ensure it does not impede roadway or pedestrian access. For more information, please visit ottawa.ca.
  • La collecte des branches d'arbres et des déchets de jardin prendra du temps. Veuillez placer les petits paquets de branches en bord de rue et vous assurer qu'ils n'entravent pas l'accès à la route ou aux piétons. Veuillez consulter ottawa.ca.

Pinecrest Rec Center at 2250 Torquay Ave is now open to serve our residents as a reception center.
It will be open until 10pm this evening and reopening from 10am to 10pm starting tomorrow until further notice. Showers, washroom facilities and charging areas are available. There is still no power in the area though we did mange to get generators. Hopefully, it won't be for too long. 

Update: Crews will be beginning work on replacement of broken poles in the Merivale, Woodroffe and Greenbank areas this afternoon. We know residents across #CollegeWard have been deeply affected by this devastating storm. and we appreciate everyone’s hard work in cleaning up in the aftermath.


Update: City offers emergency financial food aid for residents in need affected by power outages If you were affected by the power outage and are in need of financial help, you may complete an application for emergency assistance for loss of food and in exceptional circumstances for help with medication, medical supplies or personal care.  MORE
